My Scam Slam

I’m on the anti-online scam bandwagon big-time now. Networking with various groups (especially on social networking sites) and talking to different knowledgeable people about the evils of these MLM and pyramid schemes has taken up quite a bit of my time lately. Why? Basically I’m sick of watching these criminals get away with stealing money from people who are desperate to improve their financial lives.

Yet, despite my two anti-scam posts a few day ago, I didn’t cover the one issue about online scammers that stands above the rest. Many of these scams turn you into a scammer!

885588_girl_in_orange_3So not only might you buy into the latest pyramid marketing scheme out there, but you also end up having to prey on future victims to recoup your losses and make money. It’s a lose-lose situation for anyone who is sucked in. Many people who have signed up for one of these schemes have to feel pretty awful about being forced to market their new “product.” I don’t know if I could live with myself if I was forced to scam others just to reap the rewards of my investment. It’s a dark place to be. Perversely, it probably an even darker place for you once you realize not only that you’ve been had, but that you are now taking advantage of others as well.

And I have no idea how people who start these “businesses” and steal millions from people can sleep at night. Not a clue.

I love sites like scambusters.org, but I feel that they can only do so much. This is an underground issue that does not get enough attention. I have no idea how many people fall prey to online scams, but it’s probably a shockingly high number. I personally know more than a few people who have lost a lot of money to these things, and I’m not just talking about a few hundred bucks. I am talking thousands!

And, since you are probably curious…. No, I’m not speaking from personal experience! I haven’t been scammed. However, too many people who I care about have, and in a few cases it has hurt them severely.
