The art of blogging for income is a relatively new thing. While blogging itself got it’s start somewhere in the 90’s, it has recently seen an explosion in popularity. The current trends seem to indicate that the numbers of people who blog as both a hobby and profession may level off soon, peaking at about 100 million blogs.

While many of these hobby writers do this just for fun or to impress their friends, a few try to make a decent side income (or even full time income!) There is even a great website devoted to how you too can do this.

I have never made it a secret to those I know well of my intentions to eventually include advertising on this blog. Now before you scream at me and shout, “Mike’s selling out!” please understand that the whole idea behind this site is to help others find ways of conquering and eventually escaping the rat race. My primary goal is to create a place of community for others like myself. I’m also an aspiring entrepreneur, and am planning on using this site as one (of probably many) ways to get there. I am not hiding any of my intentions. Hopefully I’ll provide my readers with plenty of wonderful and fruitful ideas that they can use on their own journey to financial and professional freedom.

So there, I said it. I’m also in it for the money.

And about the ads - they will NOT be taking over the site. There will NOT be 15 pop-up windows assaulting your senses every time you try to read an entry. You will NOT be forced into buying my non-existant books on tape. Maybe some day. Anyway… back to my regularly scheduled post!

If you are also interested in this endeavor, I highly recommend the above-linked site. It is not easy though. Not everyone can get to a place where they are making a living from their writing and it usually takes a year or more before you can even start to consider going full-time. And you need a bit of luck along the way. Hopefully I’ll be able to link back to this entry in a year and smile at my own progress.

This is one potential source of income for those who are interested in an escape route. I’ll likely be writing more about it as I slowly discover the art of professional blogging myself.
