The other day I received an email from Bank of America telling me I had to update some information on my account or it would be “suspended”. I was given a deadline – June 3rd. This was urgent and it was sent to my personal email address. Very few individuals have this address.
The thing is, I am not a Bank of America customer, I do not have an account with this bank, and from the moment I opened up this email I sensed something was off. Still curious about the “urgency” of this email I clicked on the link and was taken to a credible looking online login page. The Bank of America logo stared me in the face.
However, I knew this was a SCAM and a clever one at that. Here is what I received in my inbox:
Dear valued Bank Of America member:

However, failure to update your records will result in account suspension.
Please update your records on or before June 03, 2008.you are requested to update your account informations at the following link.
Suddenly, I could imagine some sleep-eyed busy person opening up this email and instantly logging into their accounts without thinking. How easily they might transmit their personal information…
- Login name
- Password
- First and last name
- Address
- Account number
- Phone number
- Social security number
PLEASE do not fall for this scam! Warn your family and friends- especially those who are customers of Bank of America. Someone’s absent-minded moment shouldn’t lead them to financial ruin.
